Big Sur Visitor Bureau - Horseback Riding

Molera Trail Rides -

Our Big Sur horseback riding adventure began with a buttermilk pancake breakfast at the Big Sur River Inn. We drove to Molera Trail Rides, arriving early for our reservation, so we strolled to the stream in the woods and smelled the salt water. There's something about riding horses on the beach that excites the senses.

After checking in we met our guide and our horses - two for adults and three for children. The guide was friendly and the kids, experienced after a few lessons in the prior year, saddled in.

Our 60-minute "Beach Bonanza" ride began in trees and down a path to a river we crossed on the horses. The horses were calm and seemed as eager as we were to get to the beach. Walking through brush and trees we heard the waves crashing before us. After 10 minutes, we approached the shore from the back and rode past driftwood and a camp site with wood stacked like a lean-to and logs rolled into place for sitting.

The water was blue and with sun and no wind it was a perfect day. We rode for awhile down the beach, marveling at the sites and taking turns being in front which is a big deal when your a nine-year-old riding a horse on the beach. At the end of the beach we turned and our guide took photos and we rode back through the brush and woods.
